Maartje is a gender expert with a particular interest in the intersection between gender and environmental issues. She started working at VHTO in January 2018. Her first project has been Girlsday 2018, a national day on which over 350 companies welcome 12.000 girls, aged between 10 and 15, to introduce them to STEM sectors. She has been working as an independent researcher for among others Oxfam Novib. Here she conducted research on the project ‘Empower Youth for Work’ and evaluated the peer-to-peer learning methodology of E-Motive. After finishing her Research Master in Gender & Ethnicity, she worked for several years as a research assistant for the Gender Studies department of Utrecht University where she organized conferences, assisted research projects, edited books, and supported the research focus area Cultures, Citizenship and Human Rights.
